I live in a small town called New Cumnock (between the main towns of Ayr & Dumfries in the west of Scotland) with my partner (Janice) of the last 19 years.
I spend most of my time either working (IFA) playing golf or generally lounging about the house.
Living well, haven’t been back to Burton since leaving approximately 1975 Always meant to visit, never got round to it, many fond memories of place and people, don’t suppose it will look the same.

And a great fan of BGS trivia.

Can anyone tell me when the copper roof blew off? I have recently been in touch with another OB who asked the question.I am now recovering from a nast brain haemorrhage from just before last Christmas so when my typing improves I intend to make a nuisance of myself on here!
Incidently on the Swimming phot of 1964 I am th angelic looking f02!! on the front row 2nd from left.

Sad that two good pals from intake of 1960 have passed away within the last two years or so,Paul Wheeldon and Ken Jordan. I only managed to meet with Ken just before he died and Managed to attend his funeral which was a real eye opener on a much loved guy I didn't really know at all

Whilst painstakingly compiling the database collected for use at the proposed BGS Grand Reunion, it is a very noticeable statistic that less than 5% of those I have corresponded with have admitted to being in Clive house.
Please let me know if you were a 'Clivee', surely we were not that bad at everything, or were we ?

I was at BGS from 1942 to 1950 When I first arrived there were a and b forms in every year except 3 which had just one form in it. c forms were added sometime later so I suppose 3b and 3c c ame into existence then

If you have a few minutes to spare when you're in town take a stroll down Lichfield Street and into Bond Street.

Stand in the car park on the left and a few things might surprise you. Firstly, how on earth did a school, all the outbuildings and playground fit into such a small space?

Now walk up to the back of the car park and examine the wall. There's a blackboard attached to it and I'm pretty certain it's the one from G room, the classroom with the sloping floor. I can remember Ronnie Illingworth hurling a blackboard duster up to the back row. You can get your bearings from that point. A few yards to the right across a narrow corridor was the chemistry lab. From there you can easily locate what was the main hall and adjacent rooms.

Strangely, though, two of the old classrooms are still standing. They are what we thought were "temporary" huts behind and to the right of the old bicycle shed. I think they were known as Y room and Z room (or it might have been X and Y). The one furthest from the sheds was our first form room, form 1B in 1954. I think Ellick (Ernie) Ward was our form master Amazingly the two rooms are still being used, apparently by the tech college.

Although the BurtonGrammar email group has proved very useful, and will continue to do so, it does have a few failings, not least that it does not preserve any record of emails so new members have simply missed them. More worthwhile posts will be retained here.

Another problem is that not all members want to receive ALL emails. This Forum allows members to be selective about what they read by simply registering an interest in Topics of interest.

After 3 years in Wolverhampton riding motorbikes, losing my licence and sometimes studying graphics I joined the graphics department at ATV in Birmingham.

The next year I married Diane, my girlfriend since 1973, anyone remember Diane?... too good for me but I always was lucky!
We have 3 teenagers, Rachel 19, Patrick 16 and Eleanor 14. Rachel's now spending my money at University in Leeds..second year already. Patrick's just put us through the hell that is GCSE's while losing large strips of flesh skateboarding and mountain biking.
I now run the Carlton design teams at various sites across the country... but still spend most of my time at the studios in Birmingham.

We became vegetarian in 1981 following experience of the horrors of factory farming and started campaiging for animal rights shortly after. We abandoned animal food in 1985 when we went vegan... kids and all.

Anyone who remembers me tucking into sausage, egg and chips in the canteen in Wolverhampton might be surprised... still probably saved me frooronary!

Happily living with the same man for 28 years (well, that probably comes as no surprise to anyone!). Took degrees in English and psychology and was a Communications Manager for the government. Living near York with Paul, now (2007) a year into a civil partnership. Left work early 2007 to set up a plain English consultancy. Horribly overweight and stressed out. Oh, and bald as a coot.

Had a mini stroke in 2003 and lost a bit of use of left side. Now mostly back in working order. 'Fraid I've got a bit forgetful, so forgive me if I take a while to respond to messages. You might also have to explain who you are in na bit more depth than usual. I seem only to remember the bad times at school!

I live in a small market town, work for a local firm, and am a member of the local running club. Just as keen about running as I always have been. I am still interested in art - drawing, painting and sculpture.

I occasionally do artwork for money and recently become a keen woodturner. I will probably be making a move in career soon, though staying in Wales. I am hoping to be one of the top regional runners for my age. I have come to know North Wales very well, and I am gradually becoming more fluent in Welsh.

The BGS_Reunion group are to stage a large BGS reunion towards the end of this year.

Since the OBA doesn't cater too well for 'younger' ex-pupils, it is not too surprising that a separate group has emerged.

Although very different to the long established formal AGM and Annual Dinner, it would nice if somehow it could be done in association with the OBA. Who knows, it could even lead to some much needed cross-pollination!!
